TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
Measure A dollars also fund congestion relief programs and
organizations to encourage alternate forms of commuting,
such as bicycling, walking, carpooling and taking shuttles
from transit hubs to major employment centers.
The Transportation Authority also helps fund organizations
that share this mission:
PENINSULA TRAFFIC CONGESTION RELIEF ALLIANCE
Through an extensive employer and community outreach,
the Alliance offers a variety of programs for commuters.
These include shuttles to Caltrain and BART stations; vanpool
and carpool incentives; a free ride home program for employees
who need to leave work because of an emergency; and
subsidies to install bike racks and lockers at work sites.
MENLO PARK TRANSPORTATION MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
Measure A funds also have been awarded to the City of Menlo
Park for its own alternative congestion relief programs. The city
promotes public transit, ride sharing, bicycling and walking as
commute alternatives to driving single-occupant vehicles.
BICYCLES
TA funds have been used to develop and print a county bike
map and to rehabilitate and construct bike paths.
In 2004, the TA funded a bike path that connects Redwood City,
on the east side of the highway, to an extensive system of bike
paths in Redwood Shores.
