This project is for the purchase of the Dumbarton Rail Bridge
Corridor from the Southern Pacific Railroad. Caltrans and the SMCTA have
agreed to joint ownership and funding of the purchase until 2009 when the SMCTA
will repurchase the Caltrans interest in the corridor. The scope has been
expanded to include the purchase of the Redwood City wye, which will be needed
for the Dumbarton corridor, from the Union Pacific.
The purchase of the corridor occurred in 1994 and the property is jointly held between the SMCTA and Caltrans. The Redwood City wye was purchased in December 2001 for corridor preservation purposes. SMCTA is to repay a $3,450,000 Caltrans loan by December 2009. |
