Ralston, Belmont

This project is for the grade separation of Ralston Avenue in Belmont from the existing railroad tracks by creating a railroad bridge structure that accommodates traffic underneath.  The project is being implemented in 2 phases as follows:

PHASE A involves the installation of a temporary track known as a "shoofly", and the cut-over of the trains from the existing tracks to the shoofly.

PHASE B includes lowering of Ralston Avenue, constructing elevated track and structures, building railroad aerial platforms, upgrading the Belmont station, switching over railroad operation to the new bridge and demolition of the shoofly.

Ralston Avenue will be closed to traffic at certain stages of the construction, in which alternate routes will be in place.

This project is complete.

The SMCTA expended-to-date amount is overrunning the current SMCTA budget amount.  This overrun is mitigated by the funding agreement for the Ralston (Job No. 677), Harbor (Job No. 683) and Holly (Job No. 681) projects which allows payments to continue up to a combined current SMCTA budget total of $60,166,000.

Future activities include the project close out.
