South San Francisco Station Platform/Track Design

This project is for the design of the South San Francisco Caltrain Station, including the potential for accommodation of a child care facility.  This project will also provide access to the station from the east, improve access for shuttles to the station through a shuttle and kiss and ride drop off area on the east, relocate the UP yard to accommodate the above changes, provide grade separated pedestrian access at the station, purchase Right of Way for changes and construct a third or possibly 4th track through the station.  This project is tied to JPB Project No 2005 and TA Project No. 702.

Preliminary engineering work is being completed under TA Project No. 702.

Due to the conjunction with adding additional main tracks and reconfiguring the platforms, the existing UP yard tracks (3 by 2000 feet) on each side of the main track will need to be consolidated and reconfigured.  UPRR must approve the yard changes.  The City of South San Francisco is an important stakeholder in the project from which input will be sought during the project study report phase.  Additional funding to perform the detailed project study report will be required.

Provided that additional funding is forthcoming, future activities include performing a detailed project study report to accurately determine a tight scope, budget, and schedule for the proposed project.  The report will also address whether the construction work can be accomplished between spring of 2002 and spring 2004.
