The San Mateo County Transportation Authority is holding four community meetings to receive input on the agency’s strategic plan, which will guide the evaluation and prioritization of projects that apply for Measure A funding. It will be updated at least every five years.

The TA is an independent agency formed to administer the proceeds of a countywide half-cent sales tax to fund transportation improvements. The original Measure A, which established the program, was approved by voters in June 1988. In 2004, county voters reauthorized the sales tax and its publicly developed expenditure plan for an additional 25 years, beginning Jan. 1, 2009.

“One of the major benefits of Measure A is the ability it brings to leverage local funds to secure state and federal matching funds,” said TA Chair Rosanne Foust. It is estimated that the original measure brought in $1.1 billion in local sales tax and an additional $1.2 billion in leveraged funding.

To provide county residents with a balanced transportation road map the TA focuses on six key programs: transit; highways; local streets/transportation; railroad grade separations; pedestrians and bicycles; and alternative congestion relief programs.

All four meetings will begin at 6 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Aug. 27
Pacifica City Hall , council chambers
    2212 Beach Boulevard, Pacifica
  • Sept. 3
Burlingame Parks and Recreation Center, auditorium
    850 Burlingame Avenue, Burlingame
  • Sept. 10
Daly City City Hall, training room
    333 90th Street, Daly City
  • Sept. 11
    Redwood Shores Community Library
    399 Marine Parkway, Redwood City

People who are unable to attend a meeting can review a presentation about the plan on the TA Web site, www.smcta.com, after Aug. 27. Comments may be submitted in the following ways:
