New Board Member Welcomed by Transportation Authority

The San Mateo County Transportation Authority Board welcomed Cameron Johnson as its newest member at its meeting yesterday.

The City Selection Committee elected Johnson, Vice Mayor of San Carlos, to fill the South County seat vacated by Redwood City Vice Mayor Rosanne Foust.  South County represents the cities of Atherton, East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Portola Valley, Redwood City, San Carlos and Woodside.

“Effective transportation infrastructure is vital to our regional economy and our quality of life,” said Johnson. “I’m grateful to the City Selection Committee for appointing me to the TA, and I look forward to working with the Board and our County transportation staff to find creative solutions to our transportation challenges.”

The TA is governed by seven board members: two represent the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, three are selected by the City Selection Committee to represent the three judicial divisions in the County, one is an at-large representative and one is a member of the San Mateo County Transit District Board of Directors.

The TA board regularly meets the first Thursday of the month at 5 p.m. at 1250 San Carlos Ave. in San Carlos.

About the TA: Created to administer Measure A, San Mateo County’s ½ sales tax, the Transportation Authority provides funding for transportation and infrastructure improvement projects. In 2004, more than 75 percent of San Mateo County residents voted to reauthorize Measure A for an additional 25 years.
