Who We Are
We’re the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (SMCTA), better known as “The TA.”
You feel the impact of our work every day — in the highway interchange that no longer backs up, the potholes that get repaired, the free shuttle that connects Caltrain riders to workplaces, the raised railroad crossing that improves safety and keeps people moving, and the bike and pedestrian paths that make it easier to get around your neighborhood.
The TA invests your local tax dollars to fund transportation improvements according to the spending plans that you — the voters of San Mateo County — approved at the ballot box.

Developing comprehensive transportation plans that address current needs and future growth while coordinating with regional and state planning efforts.
Project Funding
Allocating federal, state, and local transportation funds to priority projects that improve mobility and safety throughout the county.
Regional Coordination
Working with regional partners to ensure San Mateo County's transportation needs are represented in Bay Area planning initiatives.
Community Engagement
Facilitating public participation in transportation planning processes and ensuring community voices are heard in decision-making.
