The San Mateo County Transportation Authority, along with the City/County Association of Governments of San Mateo County (C/CAG), has begun accepting project calls for its local shuttle program in the Peninsula, with $7 million available in funds over the next two fiscal years.
The two agencies formally opened the call for projects for the San Mateo County Shuttle Program on Monday. The goal of the program is to deliver matching operating funds for projects that improve access to regional transit services in the county, while reducing congestion in the commute corridors. Shuttles services in particular fill a critical gap in the transportation infrastructure of the Peninsula.
There will be an application workshop on Jan. 21, 2014 at 1.30 p.m. at second floor auditorium in the San Mateo County Transit District headquarters, located at 1250 San Carlos Ave. in San Carlos.
During the workshop, TA and C/CAG staff will provide an overview of the shuttle program criteria, including the call for project guidelines and application process. While employers and private entities are not eligible to apply directly, they may partner with a local jurisdiction or a public agency.

Shuttle programs are paid for in part by Measure A, the transportation sales tax initiative managed by the TA. Four percent of the Measure A funds are designated for shuttles.
About the TA: Created to administer Measure A, San Mateo County’s ½ sales tax, the Transportation Authority provides funding for transportation and infrastructure improvement projects. In 2004, more than 75 percent of San Mateo County residents voted to reauthorize Measure A for an additional 25 years.
