Transit District Goes Digital with Annual Holiday Greeting Card

The San Mateo County Transit District, which manages Caltrain, SamTrans and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority, is celebrating the holiday season in an eco-friendly way by once again producing an electronic greeting card for its customers and partners.

The greeting card can be accessed from the SamTrans, Caltrain and the  Transportation Authority websites. It depicts a family riding SamTrans and Caltrain, passing by a TA project, to participate in the holiday gift-giving spirit.

For the past several years, the District has elected to produce a digital holiday greeting card as a way to save paper and illustrate its service. The District is proud to serve thousands of loyal customers each day, and the holiday greeting is just one way to show its appreciation.

About SamTrans: Funded in part by a half-cent sales tax, the San Mateo County Transit District also provides administrative support for Caltrain and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority. SamTrans has provided bus service to San Mateo County customers since 1976.

About Caltrain: Owned and operated by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, Caltrain provides commuter rail service from San Francisco to San Jose, with limited commute service to Gilroy. Caltrain has enjoyed over three years of consecutive monthly ridership increases, surpassing more than 50,000 average weekday riders earlier this year. While the Joint Powers Board assumed operating responsibilities for the service in 1992, the railroad will celebrate 150 years of continuous passenger service in 2014. Planning for the next 150 years of Peninsula rail service, Caltrain is on pace to electrify the corridor by 2019, reducing diesel emissions by 90 percent and adding more service to more stations.

About the TA: Created to administer Measure A, San Mateo County’s ½ sales tax, the Transportation Authority provides funding for transportation and infrastructure improvement projects. In 2004, more than 75 percent of San Mateo County residents voted to reauthorize Measure A for an additional 25 years.
