Citizens Advisory Committee

The 15-member volunteer Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) acts as a liaison between the public and the Board of directors, providing valuable input to the board on the projects and programs in the Transportation Expenditure Plan, which outlines the goals, guidelines and requirements for the expenditure of the sales tax revenues generated by Measure A, a measure that was approved by 75.3 percent of the voters of San Mateo County in 2004, and Measure W, which San Mateo County voters passed by a 66.9 percent margin in 2018. The plan includes Caltrain improvements, highway and street projects, allocations to cities and the county for local undertakings, paratransit service for people with disabilities, and pedestrian and bike facilities.

Here's what members have to say about serving on the CAC:

I cannot say enough about the extensive education in both Transportation and Urban Development that I have received during my tenure on the San Mateo County Transportation Authority's Citizen Advisory Committee (TA CAC). When it comes to helping resolve the transportation challenges of our county's residents, being on the CAC has proven to be an especially wonderful opportunity to meet and work with dedicated and engaged citizens from throughout the county, as well as the professional staff from the San Mateo County Transit District, who are diligently working to give a voice to, not only individual cities and communities, but, to the entire county, as well. -Barbara Arietta

I have been on the The San Mateo County Transportation Authority Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) since 2011. The CAC is the best way that I know for a non-elected resident to have input on transportation decisions impacting the entire County. The CAC is well respected by the Board and Staff. Our discussions and recommendations are critical in helping the Board tackle transportation solutions for San Mateo County and the Bay Area. -Jeff Londer

As a Peninsula resident and regular commuter, I appreciate learning about transportation trends, projects, and all the transportation resources available to the community, from FREE community shuttles to Redi-Wheels. As an SMCTA CAC member, I appreciate learning about all the hard work and difficult decisions that need to be made on behalf of the County's transportation needs. Transportation affects everyone. Being an SMCTA CAC member allows me to serve as a liaison between my immediate small community and those making the decisions on behalf of the entire community. - Olma O'Neill, former TA CAC member

The CAC meets the Tuesday preceding the first Thursday of the month at 4:30 pm except where otherwise noted. Agendas are available at least 72 hours before the meetings. Comments to the CAC may be submitted to cacsecretary@smcta.com, by fax at 650-508-6281 or by writing to 1250 San Carlos Ave, San Carlos, CA, 94070-1306.
