Transportation Authority Announces Call for Pedestrian and Bicycle Projects

The San Mateo County Transportation Authority is announcing a call for projects for the county's Pedestrian and Bicycle Program.

A total of $5.4 million is projected to be available for Fiscal Years 2014 and 2015.

The goal of the Pedestrian and Bicycle Program is to fund capital projects that improve bicycling and walking accessibility and safety in San Mateo County, encouraging more residents to participate in active transportation. Projects in the Pedestrian and Bicycle Program should contribute to the overall goals of the Measure A Program to reduce commute corridor congestion, make regional connections, enhance safety and meet local mobility needs. Eligible projects may include, but are not limited to: paths, trails, and bridges over highways or roads.

Three percent of all the sales tax revenues from Measure A are designated for funding bicycle and pedestrian projects in San Mateo County.

While cities in San Mateo County and the County of San Mateo are the only eligible sponsors, other entities may partner with a local jurisdiction to submit a proposed project.

The program guidelines and other application materials, including an application form, are available on the TA website at www.smcta.com/bikeped. Applications are due by 4 p.m., Jan. 17, 2014. Questions can be directed to TA, Joel Slavit, 650-508-6476 or slavitj@samtrans.com.
