TA To Host Complete Streets Webinar

The San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA) will host a Complete Streets Webinar on Tuesday, January 25. Complete Streets is the practice of considering the mobility needs of all roadway users including people who walk, bicycle, scooter, take transit or drive; an essential component to all projects funded and implemented by the TA.

The webinar will promote knowledge sharing with local elected officials, transportation advisory bodies, technical planning/engineering staff and non-profit, business, and other organizations regarding best practices in Complete Streets policies, designs and implementation. It will focus on three components: an overview of the benefits of Complete Streets for all roadway users to increase safety and comfort; identifying ways that local governments can build and prioritize better transportation infrastructure; and preview how the TA will evaluate projects to ensure its investments provide the greatest benefits to San Mateo County residents.

This webinar was identified in the TA Strategic Plan 2020-2024 to promote the highest and best use of funding from the Local Streets & Road, Highway, and Pedestrian & Bicycle categories.

Later this year, the TA will offer two technical trainings for local jurisdiction engineering and planning staff. Jurisdictions that participate in the webinar and future trainings may be given additional points in future Calls for Projects by demonstrating how best practices were integrated in future funding requests. The TA will integrate information from the webinar into upcoming 2022 Call for Projects for the Pedestrian & Bicycle and Transportation Demand Management (TDM) programs.

About the Transportation Authority (TA): Created to administer Measure A, San Mateo County’s ½ cent sales tax, the TA provides funding for transportation projects and programs in San Mateo County. In 2004, more than 75 percent of San Mateo County voters reauthorize Measure A for an additional 25 years. In 2018, voters approved Measure W, the San Mateo County Congestion Relief Plan an additional ½ cent sales tax. The TA will administer half the revenue of Measure W and the San Mateo County Transit District will administer the other half to fund and implement the Congestion Relief Plan.
