US 101/SR 92 Short Term Area Improvements Project

Fact sheet | Hoja informativa | 情况介绍

Project Overview

The project will improve traffic flow and safety at four key locations around the 101/92 interchange in San Mateo. These changes will address safety concerns at the interchange while also making it easier and safer for drivers to navigate between the highways and local roads. All improvements will be constructed within existing Caltrans property and will not result in an expansion of the existing highway.

The four improvement locations are:

  • Westbound SR 92 to southbound US 101: adding more space to the loop connector to accommodate truck turns.
  • Northbound and southbound US 101 to eastbound SR 92: extend the outside lane to provide longer spacing for all 5 lanes to merge into three.
  • Southbound US 101 Fashion Island Boulevard off-ramp: re-align the Fashion Island Boulevard off-ramp from the eastbound 92 connector ramp to the westbound 92 connector ramp.
  • Northbound US 101 Hillsdale Boulevard off-ramp: add more space to the Hillsdale off ramp for cars lining up to exit, upgrade the northbound on-ramp to meet current standards and add pedestrian crossing enhancements, and extend the third eastbound lane on the Hillsdale overcrossing.
