Our History
We’re the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (SMCTA), better known as “The TA.”
In 1988, San Mateo County voters approved Measure A, a half-cent sales tax to fund local transportation improvements. That vote also created the TA — the public agency responsible for investing Measure A funds into transportation projects and programs according to spending plans approved by voters at the ballot box.
In 2004, voters renewed Measure A with 75.3% support, showing strong public confidence in these investments. Since then, The TA has invested more than $1.3 billion in local roads, sidewalks, public transit, bike lanes, congestion relief programs and more. Learn about Measure A here.
