There’s a plan in the works to make it easier for people to take transit seamlessly between San Mateo County and the neighboring counties of San Francisco, Santa Clara and Alameda.  The San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA) is developing the project with the goal of creating a framework for funding future transit-connection improvements through a new grant program. 

SamTrans and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA) have published webpages detailing accomplishments over the course of 2023.  Both agencies made many accomplishments in 2023. SamTrans launched its newest battery-electric bus into service this past summer, as well the Ride Plus microstransit service that allows people to book vans for short trips within East Palo Alto, Half Moon Bay, and the Belle Haven neighborhood of Menlo Park. 

The San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA) Board of Directors approved the 2023 Highway Program Call for Projects for local governments in the latest competitive grant program aimed at improving traffic flow and safety on the county’s most critical commute corridors.  The Highway Program Call for Projects originally advertised distributing up to $100 million in sales-tax generated funds, but the TA Board of Directors approved increasing funding up to $135.9 million for 11 projects. The money comes from voter-approved Measures A and W. 

This combined funding allows for a yet-to-be-approved contractor to participate in the final aspects of the design process, which is approaching 95% completion.
