Transportation Authority Elects Officers, Welcomes Members

The San Mateo County Transportation Authority Board elected officers and welcomed a new board member at its meeting Thursday.

The Board of Directors unanimously re-elected Redwood City Councilwoman Rosanne Foust, who represents the county's southern cities, for a fifth term as chair. Supervisor Carole Groom, representing the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, was elected vice chair.

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors named newly appointed County Supervisor Don Horsley to the TA to assume the position previously held by former County Supervisor Rich Gordon.

The TA is responsible for administering the Measure A, half-cent sales tax. The reauthorized measure, which went into effect on Jan. 1, 2009, includes new programs and projects such as ferry service to South San Francisco and Redwood City and a major infusion of tax dollars for pedestrian and bicycle projects.

The TA board regularly meets the first Thursday of the month at 5 p.m. at 1250 San Carlos Ave. in San Carlos.
