Transportation Authority Reelects Officers, Members

The San Mateo County Transportation Authority Board reelected officers and swore- in three returning board members at its meeting Jan. 3. 

The Board of Directors reelected Carole Groom, who represents the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, chair. Karyl Matsumoto, who represents the SamTrans board, was reelected vice chair.

Supervisor Groom, Half Moon Bay City Councilmember Naomi Patridge and Burlingame City Councilmember Terry Nagel will serve another term on the Board. Redwood City Councilmember Rosanne Foust will be sworn in at February’s board meeting.

One board position, recently vacated by retiring Brisbane City Councilmember Sepi Richardson, will be filled by the City Selection Committee. The position represents the northern county cities.

The TA is responsible for administering the Measure A, half-cent sales tax. The reauthorized measure, which went into effect on Jan. 1, 2009, includes new programs and projects such as ferry service to South San Francisco and Redwood City and a major infusion of tax dollars for pedestrian and bicycle projects.          

The TA board regularly meets the first Thursday of the month at 5 p.m. at 1250 San Carlos Ave. in San Carlos.

About the Transportation Authority (TA): Created to administer Measure A, San Mateo County’s ½ cent sales tax, the TA provides funding for transportation projects and programs in San Mateo County. In 2004, more than 75 percent of San Mateo County voters reauthorize Measure A for an additional 25 years. In 2018, voters approved Measure W, the San Mateo County Congestion Relief Plan an additional ½ cent sales tax. The TA will administer half the revenue of Measure W and the San Mateo County Transit District will administer the other half to fund and implement the Congestion Relief Plan.
