The San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA) announces a Call for Projects (CFP) for the Pedestrian and Bicycle Program. The program will fund projects that improve bicycling, walking accessibility and safety in San Mateo County. The competitive bid totals nearly $18 million in combined funding from voter approved Measures A and W. The 2022 Pedestrian and Bicycle Program Cycle 6 CFP will be the largest in San Mateo County history. The TA Strategic Plan 2020-2024 created a combined Measure A and W Pedestrian and Bicycle Program in accordance with the Measure A Goals and Measure W Core Principles. The Pedestrian Program includes three main categories: Capital Projects, Planning/Promotions, and Safe Routes to School.

The CAC is a 15-member volunteer group who serve in an advisory capacity to the TA Board, advising on the administration of the funds collected by Measures A and W, and providing valuable input on the projects and programs in the Expenditure Plan. The plan includes Caltrain improvements, highway and street projects, allocations to cities and the county for local undertakings, paratransit service for people with disabilities, and pedestrian and bike upgrades. Committee members are asked to serve a three-year term. All applicants must be residents of San Mateo County. The committee meets every Tuesday before the first Thursday of the month at 4:30 p.m. via Zoom teleconference (and eventually in San Carlos when it is safe to do so). Media Contact: Tasha Bartholomew, 650-339-5257 San Mateo County Transportation Authority Adopts Budget The San Mateo County Transportation Authority’s (TA) Board of Directors unanimously approved a $166.8 million budget at their June Board meeting for the 2023 Fiscal Year (FY). This budget includes the estimated receipt of $108.3 million in Measure A funds and $54.1 million in Measure W funds in FY2023.  The $30.9 million in Measure A annual allocations includes $24.4 million for the improvement and maintenance of local transportation across over 20 cities and unincorporated areas in San Mateo County and $4.3 million for paratransit. Approximately $76.3 million in Measure A Category Program Expenditures will help fund projects/programs in the Alternative Congestion Relief, Dumbarton, Pedestrian & Bicycle, Local Shuttles, Streets & Highways, Grade Separations, San Mateo County Ferry Service categories, and $17.3 million is included for Caltrain. Approximately $43.3 million of Measure W revenue will fund countywide highway congestion improvements, local safety pothole & congestion relief improvements, bicycle and pedestrian improvements, and regional transit connections. The remaining $10.8 million will be invested in major arterial and local roadway improvements in key congested areas throughout the county. The budget also includes $2.3 million in oversight and $3.2 million in administrative expenses.
